Benefits of Weightlifting

Weightlifting, also known as resistance training or strength training, involves lifting heavy weights to build strength. Unfortunately, some people have fears associated with weightlifting. These fears include the fear of getting injured due to lack of experience, and the fear of ending up overly muscular like bodybuilders. However, weightlifting alone cannot make you bulk up to the size of a bodybuilder unless you start taking artificial hormones. In fact, weightlifting offers several benefits:

 

1. Increased metabolic efficiency and calorie burning

As we age, we naturally lose muscle mass, which leads to a decrease in our basal metabolic rate (BMR). Weightlifting can increase lean muscle mass, which in turn increases BMR. This means that even when you're resting, your body will burn more calories efficiently.

 

2. Improved performance and physical appearance

Weightlifting strengthens and builds muscles, which results in improved physical performance for activities like work, sports, and everyday tasks. Additionally, weightlifting can positively impact your body composition and appearance, boosting confidence and self-esteem. As long as you can participate in weightlifting exercises, it is beneficial to incorporate them into your fitness routine.
